Marquette falls to Villanova 60-56 Saturday

PHILADELPHIA (WTAQ) - The Marquette men’s basketball team fell into a three-way tie for second place in the Big East Conference, after losing at Villanova Saturday night 60-56.

The 17th-ranked Golden Eagles were sloppy with the ball, as they committed 19 turnovers to just 10 miscues for the Wildcats.

Junior Cadougan was the only Marquette player to score in double figures. He had 12, and the Eagles lost despite outshooting ‘Nova 45-42 percent.

But the Wildcats shot 57 percent in the second half to help nail down its victory.

Darrun Hilliard scored 22 for Villanova, which improved to 9-6 in the Big East and 17-11 overall. Marquette fell to 10-4 in the conference and 19-7 overall.

Georgetown is now alone atop the Big East standings at 11-3. Marquette will host Syracuse tomorrow night on ESPN’s “Big Monday.”

Elsewhere, the UW-Milwaukee men scored the final nine points of the second overtime to win a Bracket Buster game at Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis, 95-88.
