SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - A 14-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to an adult homicide charge in the murder of his friend’s great-grandmother.

Nathan Paape entered his plea Tuesday, a week after a Sheboygan County judge rejected his request to be tried in juvenile court.

Paape and 14-year-old Antonio Barbeau are charged with first-degree intentional homicide in last September’s slaying of 78-year-old Barbara Olson at her home in Sheboygan Falls. Barbeau has pleaded insanity.

Authorities said the teens killed Olson with a hammer and hatchet, ransacked her house, and stole money which they then used to buy marijuana and pizza.

Paape’s lawyer will ask that his client’s possible trial be moved out of Sheboygan, due to heavy media coverage locally. A hearing on that request is set for a week from Thursday.

Both teens are scheduled to be tried together in early March, but lawyers on both sides say there might be a need for separate trials. Both boys face life in prison if they’re convicted – but if Barbeau is found insane, he’d be sent to a mental institution for an indefinite period.
