NEW ORLEANS - Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson on Saturday in New Orleans became the first Viking since Fran Tarkenton in 1975 to win the league's coveted Most Valuable Player award. Peterson also was named Offensive Player of the Year. He was nine yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record less than a year after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery to repair ACL and MCL tears. Peterson posted the second-highest rushing total in league history with 2,097 yards and finished with 12 touchdowns. Peterson shared the spotlight with former Viking Cris Carter, who was named to the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.
