The Green Bay Phoenix had a chance to pull to within a half game of the Horizon League lead but they stumbled to the UIC Flames at the Pavillion in Chicago Thursday night 60-57. Despite turning the ball over 10 times in the first half, GB trailed by just two at intermission. The Flames opened the second half with a 9-0 run and built the lead to as many as 12 before the Phoenix rallied. Alec Brown's three point hoop gave Green Bay a 57-54 lead with just over a minute to play. Josh Crittle scored UIC's final 6 points with four from the line to hold off Green Bay. The Phoenix had a posession for the lead in the waning seconds but the 16th and final turnover led to a foul and Crittle converted the final shots. A long inbounds pass was knocked out of bounds at the horn. Kiefer Sykes led Green Bay with 18 points, Brennan Cougill had 11 and Greg Mayes had 10 off the bench. Green Bay drops to 1-9 on the road for the season, 11-11 overall and now they are 5-4 in conference play, tied for fourth place. The two game swing through Chicago continues Saturday afternoon at Loyola.
