UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News)  Three of Wisconsin's largest cities had record snowfalls for December 22nd. Milwaukee picked up eight inches yesterday, breaking the mark of 2.8-inches set in 1896. Green Bay also set a record for the date with six inches of snow. Ditto for Madison, with 5.9-inches.

Much of the southeast quarter of the state had 5-to-9 inches -- including Wisconsin Dells, and stretching northeast into Door County. Places close to Lake Superior in far northern Wisconsin also got dumped on. In Ashland, 12-inches fell by early last evening -- and it was still coming down. One National Weather Service report said Drummond in Bayfield County had 20 inches of snow -- and another said it had nine-inches as of early this morning.

The Fox Valley got around four inches. Other parts of the state had 1-to-3. Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies handled almost 120 crashes and disabled vehicles -- including one mishap that caused minor injuries to a deputy. Packer fans on I-43 went single-file at times on the two northbound lanes while slowly heading to Green Bay for the game. U-W Madison's graduation ceremony was packed, and chancellor Rebecca Blank said the thousands of people at the Kohl Center were to be congratulated just for showing up.

Over 40 churches in Milwaukee County canceled their Sunday morning services.

Lingering snow is in the forecast throughout Wisconsin for today. Another band is due in late tomorrow night into Christmas Day. Cold-and-dry weather is then expected for the rest of the week.
