(WNFL) -The New York Yankees have signed outfielder Carlos Beltran to a three-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth $45 million. Beltran, who will turn 37 in April, batted .296 with 24 homers and 84 RBI in 145 games for the Cardinals last season. He spent two years with St. Louis after spending the latter part of the 2011 campaign with the Giants following his trade from the New York Mets. Beltran, a career .283 hitter with 358 homers, spent his first 6 1/2 seasons playing for Kansas City and was dealt to the Astros during the 2004 campaign before signing a seven-year free-agent deal with the Mets. The Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year contract with right-handed reliever John Axford. Axford opened the 2013 campaign as Milwaukee's closer, but was removed after six blown saves and was eventually dealt to St. Louis in August. Axford pitched to a 1.74 ERA for the Cardinals down the stretch and struck out five batters over 2 1/3 scoreless innings in two World Series appearances. After saving 81 games the previous two seasons, Axford didn't record a single save last season. Still, the Indians plan on having him open camp as the team's closer.
