Excessive heat warning for parts of Wisconsin until midnight Tuesday

UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News)   The western third of Wisconsin is under an excessive heat warning until midnight tomorrow. The National Weather Service upgraded previous advisories for the region, after the heat index jumped above 100 in some areas yesterday.

Onalaska had the hottest temperature-and-humidity index at 104. Rhinelander broke a 65-year-old heat record yesterday with a high of 92. Wausau reached a high of 92. It was 90 in Stevens Point, 94 in Marshfield, and 94 in Wisconsin Rapids.

Forecasters say the misery index could reach 110 in western Wisconsin for at least the next two afternoons. Highs in the low-to-mid-90’s are being predicted for all of the Badger State today except along Lakes Michigan and Superior, where it will be a few degrees cooler.

Meanwhile parts of northwest Wisconsin was hit with torrential rains overnight. The weather service said the Bayfield area got 4-to-6 inches of rain by 1:50 this morning – and another inch-or-two was expected through this morning.
