Brewers big inning beats Giants

by

The Milwaukee Brewers scored more runs in a single inning than they had in an entire game this season, holding off the World Series champion San Francisco Giants 10-8 in a homestand opener at Miller Park Tuesday night.   The Brewers battered Barry Zito for 8 runs in the third inning, capped by Yuniesky Betancourt's 5th career grand slam home run.  Zito entered the game 2-0, without giving up an earned run and he hadn't lost a decision since last August, but he was tagged for five consecutive hits and charged with 9 runs in two and a third innings.  Zito is now 0-5 lifetime in Milwaukee.  Carlos Gomez and Nori Aoki also homered for the Brewers who had to hang on for the victory.  Starter Wily Peralta never settled down, leaving in the 5th after giving up six runs.  Mike Fiers struggled out of the bullpen but Brandon Kintzler got out of a jam to earn his second victory.  Ryan Braun went hitless with four strikeouts, now mired in a 1 for 17 slump.   Kyle Lohse will face Ryan Vogelsong in game two of the series Wednesday night.  Broadcast time on WTAQ is 6:35 PM.
