WEST ALLIS, WI (WTAQ) - A mother is in custody in connection with Thursday’s house fire in West Allis that killed three of her young children.
Officials told a news conference Friday that 4-year-old twin boys died in the fire, along with a 5-year-old girl.
There was no adult in the house when the fire started late Thursday afternoon, and police say they’re questioning the mother.
Neighbors have said the family also has a baby, but that person was not home when the fire broke out.
Officials said smoke detectors were working on both floors of the two-story house. The victims’ names were not released as of early Friday afternoon.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives continue to investigate the blaze – along with the state Justice Department and local authorities.
