APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Residents and homeowners in the Fox Valley spent much of Wednesday picking up the pieces following a spring ice storm.
From street signs to tree branches and blades of grass, a crust of ice covered nearly any surface.
Appleton Medical Center was without power for nearly five hours. Hospital officials say inpatient care wasn't affected. But elective or non-essential procedures were canceled. Power was restored at about 10 a.m.
The Appleton Police Department and Appleton Fire Department are also reminding residents to be cautious around downed wires. Although many downed wires are related to cable television services, authorities say all wires should be treated as being potentially energized.
Also, if you are driving and come across an intersection with traffic signals that are not working, those intersections should be treated as a 4-way stop.
The weather also impacted school in the Fox Valley. Appleton public schools closed because of the hazardous weather and power outages throughout the area.
