Election turnout anticipated near 20%

by

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board is predicting only 20 percent of eligible voters will go to the polls Tuesday.

Spokesman Kevin Kennedy says the fall Presidential election had a 70-point-1 percent turnout, and the spring elections two years ago in the height of the Capitol protests was 34-point- 3 percent. He believes the low voter interest may be because only two statewide races are on the ballot.

Supreme Court Justice Pat Roggensack is being challenged by professor Ed Fallone, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers is challenged by Republican State Representative Don Pridemore.

Overall, Wisconsinites will choose 29 circuit court judges, 43 mayors, 375 village presidents, 1,182 town board chairs, and 614 school board members.

There are 52 school district referenda issues for spending beyond the cap or for building projects.

Residents in Fort Atkinson, Whitewater, and in all of Chippewa County can weigh in on an advisory referendum asking if the U.S. Constitution should be amended regarding rights for corporations.
