LAONA, WI (WTAQ) - A company in Laona is planning to double its workforce in the near future.
WD Flooring says it'll add 58 new jobs, along with new equipment upgrades, on the heels of a $750,000 business loan from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
The 110-year-old mill currently employs 55 workers and is the largest private employer in Forest County.
"These jobs will continue to solidify the rural manufacturing base here in the area," President and CEO Peter Connor tells FOX 11, adding that any industry related to housing and construction has been hit hard by the recession.
Connor says the demand for flooring has shifted from solid hardwood to engineered wood.
The loan will help WD Flooring convert one of its production buildings into producing more engineered wood product.
Connor said the company hasn't had major layoffs, but does plan on rehiring some of the positions lost over the past five years.
Applicants interested in jobs at WD Flooring may apply immediately. Connor says he's looking to fill manufacturing spots, as well as marketing and sales positions.
