Brewers have fun in the sun

by

The Milwaukee Brewers got some help from the bright sunshine in the nation's capitol Sunday afternoon in beating the Washington Nationals 6-2.   The offense did it's part, banging out 15 hits, Rickie Weeks had three and Aramis Ramirez delivered two more doubles but on two occassions, runs crossed the plate when the sun crossed up Washington outfielders.  With the game tied at 2, MIlwaukee scored three times in the top of the 7th, the second run coming home when a Carlos Gomez pop fly dropped right in front of Jayson Werth who lost the ball in the sun.  The same thing happened to centerfielder Bryce Harper in the second with Ryan Braun sent a ball his way.  Yovanni Gallardo worked five innings for the Crew, giving up two runs but wasn't involved in the decision. Brandon Kintzler picked up the win (3-0) working a scoreless 6th and John Axford finished up for his 33rd save on the season.  The Brewers streak keeps rolling, having won 25 of their last 32 to reach 79-73 on the season but they remain two and a half games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the final wild card spot.  St. Louis beat the Cubs in Chicago Sunday 6-3.   The Dodgers defeated Cincinati 5-3 to remain three games out in the wild card standings.  Marco Estrada will pitch for Milwaukee in the finale of the four game series at Nationals Park Monday afternoon.
