Brewers believe

by

A stellar pitching performance and the reigning MVP delivers as the Milwaukee Brewers shut out the New York Mets 3-0 at Miller Park Sunday to take the rubber game of the series and creep even closer to the last National League Wild Card spot.   Willy Peralta fired eight scoreless innings allowing just a pair of singles for the victory.  Ryan Braun belted a pair of home runs, a solo shot in the 4th was the 200th of his career and another solo bomb in the 6th gave him 40 on the season.  Aramis Ramirez also went deep for Milwaukee.   John Axford finished up the 9th for his 29th save of the season.  Milwaukee has reeled off 20 wins in their last 26 games to climb to two games over .500 at 74-72 and close within two and a half games of the second Wild Card spot.  The Brewers moved past Pittsburgh, a 13-9 loser to the Cubs in Chicago.   Atlanta has all but locked up the first wild card and St. Louis holds the second spot, by one game over the Dodgers.  The Cardinals beat Los Angeles 5-2 in 12 innings Sunday to split that four game series.  After an off day Monday, the Brewers begin their final road trip of the year, a 10 game stretch with three in Pittsburgh, four in Washington against the East Division leading Nationals and three in Cincinnati against the Central division leading Reds.
