UNDATED (WSAU) Wisconsinites made a little more money last year – but poverty went up, and so did the percentage of residents without health insurance.
A new report from the U-S Census Bureau said Wisconsin’s median household income was $52,058 last year, up slightly from $51,939 in 2010. The typical Wisconsinite made about $2,000 more than the national average. But the percentage of people living in poverty went up by three percentage points to 13-point-one last year. That was still lower than the national poverty rate of 15-percent.
Also, the Census Bureau said 589,000 Wisconsin residents did not have health insurance last year, or almost 10-and-a-half percent of the state’s population. The numbers of uninsured were about 70,000 higher than in 2010.
