Brewers sweep Braves, 3 back in Wild Card

The surging Milwaukee Brewers have climbed to within three games of the last National League Wild Card spot by completing a three game sweep of the Atlanta Braves.  Milwaukee erupted for all eight runs in the fifth inning in Wednesday night's 8-2 victory at Miller Park.  Trailing Paul Mahalom 2-0 into the fifth, Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks launched his 19th home run of the year, a three run shot that glanced off the top of the outfield wall in right center field for the lead.  Travis Ishikawa later would lace a bases clearing, three run double to the right center field gap.   At one point, seven straight batters reached on six hits and a walk.  Yovani Gallardo worked seven innings for his 15th victory, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 6.   The Brewers (72-71) moved above .500 for the first time since April and they're tied with Philadelphia, winners of seven in a row.   All of the other Wild Card contenders lost again on Wednesday night.  St. Louis (75-68) was swept by  San Diego.  The Los Angeles Dodgers (74-69) remain one game behind after they were swept by Arizona.  The Cardinals and Dodgers open a big, four game series in Los Angeles Thursday night.  Pittsburgh (72-70) remains two and a half games out after the dropped their sixth straight game in Cincinnati.  After an off day Thursday, the Brewers welcome the New York Mets to Miller Park over the weekend.
