Packers stumble in tough season-opener 30-22 to San Francisco

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - In an early season marquee matchup, the San Francisco 49ers went into Lambeau Field and took control early, holding off the Green Bay Packers 30-22 at Lambeau Field Sunday.

The Packers had a chance to tie the game with 3:37 remaining, getting the ball at their own 16 with no timeouts. Driving to near mid-field, the offensive line could not protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers enough, and they turned it over on downs, ending a battle of last season's top 2 seeds in the NFC playoffs.

Rodgers finished the game 30-of-44 for 303 yards and 2 touchdowns with one interception. Wide receiver Randal Cobb had a huge game, catching 9 passes for 77 yards, and had a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown.

49ers quarterback Alex Smith finished the day 20-of-26 for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Frank Gore ran 16 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. Kicker David Akers tied an NFL record with a 63 yard field goal at the end of the first half.
