MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The all-important point guard position will fall to redshirt freshman George Marshall this season.
Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan had been counting on junior Josh Gasser to do the job, but he suffered a knee injury in practice Saturday and is lost for the season.
Gasser had started 66 games the last two seasons and was poised to take over for the graduating Jordan Taylor. He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he comes back.
The Badgers had already lost starting forward Mike Bruesewitz with a leg injury. He is expected to be out four to six weeks, missing several games at the start of the season.
