Voter registration, election observers to be discussed at GAB meeting

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Voter registration and the behavior of election observers will be among the things discussed Tuesday morning when the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board meets.

The State GOP and others have complained about new policies on where poll observers can stand, in the wake of problems during the spring recall elections.

One group says it would not be able to observe the process, because observers would have to stand six-feet away. The Board will also discuss concerns over the documents that prospective voters need to register at the polls on Election Day.

There were reports that poll workers allowed some voters to get away with flimsy evidence of where they live – while college students and others were turned away because they didn’t have the proper documents.

Republicans passed laws last year requiring that voters live at their current addresses for 28 years instead of the previous 10 days. And registrants could no longer have others vouch for them at the polls – something one clerk says could be a real problem at the polls two weeks from Tuesday.
