MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - In the presidential election of 2008, one in five ballots cast in Wisconsin came during the early voting period.

Election clerks across the state say they are getting ready to face long lines Monday when early, in-person voting starts.

The period is more than a week shorter for this election.

A spokesperson for the Romney campaign says statistics show requests for mail-in absentee ballots are much strong in heavily-Republican regions of the state.

Wisconsin election officials are projecting about 69 percent of the state’s eligible voters will cast ballots by November 6th. That’s about 3 million people, with the rush starting Monday.
