Gov. Walker proponent of getting rid of same-day voter registration

Governor Scott Walker says he thinks it would be quote, “much better” if Wisconsin did not have same-day voter registration.

He made the comment Friday when he spoke at the Ronald Reagan Library and Musuem in California.

Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie says he has nothing to add.

Same-day registration was adopted almost four decades ago to boost extremely low voter turnouts back then.

Some Republicans have said it encourages voter fraud – and a couple lawmakers have tried to repeal it in recent years, with little success.

One of them is the new speaker of the Assembly, Racine County Republican Robin Vos.

Today, Vos said he was open to the idea – but has not spoken with the governor about it, and he doesn’t know anyone else who would propose it.

Democrats have traditional benefited from same day voter registration with getting out the vote among young people.

Walker talks about the burdens of same-day voter registration at 48:55 into the YouTube video.
