Hurricane Sandy Disrupts Late Night Shows: What New Eps Are Cancelled?

By Christian Blauvelt, Hollywood.com Staff

An audience is usually considered an essential ingredient of comedy. Lots and lots of water, however, is not. Nor are 90-mile-per-hour gusts. And yet despite Hurricane Sandy bearing down full-force on New York City, not all of the Big Apple-based late night comedy shows are shuttering their studio doors tonight.

Hollywood.com has confirmed that Late Show With David Letterman is still taping today at 5:30 p.m. for a broadcast tonight, with Denzel Washington (promoting his new movie Flight) and musical guest Paul Banks. The only thing missing? An audience! Letterman may be braving the storm himself, but he's certainly not willing to risk other people's lives for tonight's ""Will It Float?"" and ""Top 10 List.""

Also soldiering on sans audience? Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, which will welcome Seth Meyers, Padma Lakshmi, and Robert Zemeckis, with musical guest Imagine Dragons.

However, Jimmy Kimmel tweeted this afternoon that his special broadcast from the Brooklyn Academy of Music has been cancelled. ""Though it pains us to do it, JKL from #Brooklyn tonight is cancelled,"" he wrote. ""I'm disappointed too, but we want you to be safe."" A rep for Jimmy Kimmel Live! said in a statement that the plan, for now, is still to tape tomorrow night's show: ""Due to stupid Hurricane Sandy and in the interest of the safety of our studio audience, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will not broadcast tonight. We are hopeful to be back on the air tomorrow night with Howard Stern, Tracy Morgan and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.""

Comedy Central also confirms that today's episodes of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report have been cancelled as well. Repeats will be airing tonight. A rep for the network says tomorrow's broadcasts can be considered ""TBD"" and ""will be evaluated as the day and storm track progress.""
