APPLETON, WI (WNFL) – The third-ranked Division 3 high school boys basketball team in the state has been given new tournament blood. Little Chute, despite being upset by Xavier 50-47 in the WIAA Division 3 regional final, has advanced to this evening’s sectional semifinal after the WIAA ruled Xavier ineligible.
Xavier unknowingly used an ineligible player in the last Saturday’s meeting between the two teams. A member of the Hawks had played in a non-high school game, which is a violation of WIAA in-season eligibility. Xavier officials self-reported the infringement to the WIAA immediately upon learning of it.
The regional championship is considered a Xavier forfeit. Little Chute will face Appleton East tonight at 7pm.
