The Milwaukee Brewers conducted the first workout of the spring Monday in Maryvale, Arizona. Pitchers and catchers reported over the weekend. The Brewers announced the signing of five players on Monday, pitchers Marco Estrada, Mike McClendon, Tim Dillard and Mark Rogers, along with catcher Martin Maldonado, agreed to terms on one year contracts. Estrada appeared in 43 games as both fill in starter and out of the bullpen, going 4-8 with a 4.08 ERA. McClendon made nine relief appearances and built a 3-0 record with and ERA of 2.63. Dillard was 1-1 with 24 appearances. Rogers, a former number one pick has been beset by injuries during his minor league career. The Brewers expect to hear this week on the appeal of Ryan Braun, facing a 50 game suspension for testing positive for high levels of testosterone last fall. The National League MVP took his case to an appeals hearing but no player has won an appeal against baseball's drug testing program.
