The Sting star created the Sundance Channel in his native U.S. in 1996 with the aim of promoting independent films, documentaries, and world cinema.

He has since taken it to Europe, Singapore, and the Philippines, and now he has added another country to his list by launching the channel in Turkey.

Speaking at the unveiling in Istanbul this week (beg26Nov12), Redford says, ""When the Sundance Channel first started in the United States many years ago, it was my dream for the network to expand worldwide to showcase the exciting work of independent filmmakers.
