CHARLOTTE, NC (WTAQ) - It wasn't the sharpest performance by the Super Bowl champs, but the Green Bay Packers overcame another record-setting performance by rookie quarterback Cam Newton to hold off the Carolina Panthers 30-23 in Charlotte Sunday.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers finished the day 19-of-30 for 308 yards and 2 TD's, including an 84-yarder to wide receiver Jordy Nelson late in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach.
Newton, the number-one overall pick in this past April's draft, had his second-straight 400 yard passing game. He finished 28-of-46 for 432 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT's. Newton now has the most passing yards over his first two games in NFL history with 854 yards.
Cornerback Charles Woodson had an impressive day, with 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery. Wide receiver Donald Driver's lone catch for 10 yards, made him the all-time Packers leader in receiving yardage. Driver now has 9,666 career receiving yards, surpassing James Lofton's team record.
Safety Nick Collins had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after a collision in the 3rd quarter. At this time, team officials only say Collins has a neck injury.
