GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A man wanted for a 1998 murder in California turned himself in Monday to police in Green Bay.

Officials said 31-year-old Carlos Ramirez called officers from a convenience store, and said he wanted to surrender. He was not armed, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities in Atwater California issued a homicide warrant 11 years ago, and Ramirez was on the run since then. Atwater Police Chief Richard Hawthorne did not immediately have details of the murder.

Ramirez told Brown County Jail workers he was homeless. He’ll stay there until he’s extradited back to California.
