UNDATED (WSAU) A D-N-R report says the wolf population in Central Wisconsin is growing. An endangered resources survey says there are 13 wolf sightings in Marathon County, 10 in Wood County, and 8 in Portage County.

The report also tracks dead wolves found in the area: 3 in Portage County, 2 in Wood County, one in Marathon County. Most were killed by cars. Some were shot illegally.

Wolves have been off and on the federal endangered species list based on a series of lawsuits. At issue is whether the state or the federal government will manage the size of Wisconsin's wolf population.
