MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The state elections' agency has asked Milwaukee County prosecutors to consider charges against a group that tells Walker recall opponents to sign petitions as "Adolf Hitler."
The group is called "Mines for Wisconsin," and it favors the proposed iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties.
The group sent out fliers saying it's not illegal to sign recall petitions using Hitler's name. But Government Accountability Board director Kevin Kennedy said it is illegal to write false names on recall petitions -- and in the end, they won't be counted.
The group's fliers list a Milwaukee address and phone number. They accuse recall supporters of not wanting "thousands of high-paying jobs" in northern Wisconsin.
The group encouraged signing Hitler's name because, "Hitler was willing to destroy Germany to get his ideals in place ... This is similar to what the recall people are doing in Wisconsin."
The state Republican Party reiterated that it does not condone foul play in the recall process.
