GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Brown County district attorney John Zakowski has been appointed to sixth district circuit court judge in Brown County.

Governor Scott Walker's office made that announcement Wednesday.

“Mr. Zakowski’s extensive qualifications and community involvement make him an ideal candidate to serve on the Brown County Circuit Court,” Governor Walker said in a statement.

Zakowski first became DA back in 1986.

“John is a dedicated public servant and has a strong commitment to the community,” said Judge Kendall Kelley.  “He has a marked zeal for justice as a prosecutor and I know he will be a fair judge.  I look forward to serving with him on the bench.”

He takes over for J.D. McKay, who retired earlier this month
