MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - A man was burned Tuesday morning when a house exploded in Madison.
It happened around 10 a.m. on Madison’s east side. A 45-year-old man was taken to a hospital with first and second-degree burns. A neighbor, Jeffrey Borreson, told the Capital Times he was just returning from a walk when he saw the victim jump out of the house and asked for help.
Authorities said a bathroom project was being done – and it’s possible that re-surfacing materials on a bath tub might have come in contact with some kind of flammable material.
Madison fire spokeswoman Lori Werth said it was not known if the victim lived in the house – or if he was a hired person working in the bathroom. She said the blast caused a wall to separate from a stairway, and the windows of the house were blown out.
No one else was hurt. A utility crew was trying to determine if natural gas was involved.
