MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Governor Jim Doyle has given $1 million from his campaign fund to a liberal group that’s trying to defeat Republican hopeful Scott Walker.

According to newly-released records, the Democrat Doyle gave a half-million dollars twice last month to the Greater Wisconsin Committee. The group has spent a half-million on ads that attack Walker, as he runs against fellow Republican Mark Neumann in next Tuesday’s primary.

The Greater Wisconsin Committee also ran attack ads against Doyle’s election opponent in 2006, Republican Mark Green. Doyle is stepping down in January, and he’s pushing for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to replace him. Barrett is the only major Democrat in the race.
