STURGIS (WTVB) - Authorities say a Coldwater man working at the Morgan-Olson plant in Sturgis was the victim of a pedestrian-semi accident early yesterday on the south side of Sturgis. Detectives say alcohol was believed to be a factor when 45-year old James Chess was run over and killed by the truck around 2:30 in the morning Monday .

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department said it appeared Chess was walking in the southbound lane of South Centreville Road south of Fawn River Road when he was struck by the semi driven by 61-year old Harold Bolden of Sturgis. The accident remains under investigation.

Chess was a 1983 graduate of Coldwater high school. He’s survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons. A memorial services for James Chess will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Light of Messiah Fellowship Church on Copeland Road, Coldwater.
