MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - A record number of cheese makers want to be known as the world’s best. Over 2,300 cheeses and butters have been entered in a contest held every 2 years by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers’ Association. Producers from 20 countries have entered this year’s contest, to be held next Tuesday through Thursday in Madison. 80 categories of cheese will be judged – including brie, cheddar, and gorgonzola. There’s a new category this year for cheeses with reduced-sodium. The top prize in 2008 went to Michael Spycher, who submitted a gruyere cheese made in a tiny village in Switzerland.
