EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WTAQ) - State legislators from northwest Wisconsin are praising the appointment of an Eau Claire attorney to the UW Board of Regents. Governor Jim Doyle chose Edmund Manydeeds to replace Eileen Connolly-Keesler of Neenah, whose term ends on May 1st. Manydeeds has served on the selection panel that recommends judicial appointments for the governor.
In a separate move, Doyle re-appointed Wausau attorney Mark Bradley to another 7 year term on the Regent panel. Lawmakers from northwest Wisconsin have complained that the region lacks enough representation on the UW’s policy-setting body – even though there are 3 four-year campuses within 60 miles of each other between Eau Claire and River Falls, plus the 4-year school in Superior.
Last year, the Assembly and Senate passed a bill requiring that at least one Regent come from each of 7 geographic areas of Wisconsin. Doyle vetoed the bill, saying the governor needs the ability to pick the best people no matter where they’re from.
