GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - Beloit, Janesville, and Green Bay will join a federal program that fights drug trafficking in Metro Milwaukee. The National Drug Control Policy Office has added Rock and Brown counties to the Milwaukee High Intensity Drug Trafficking area. It allows authorities in the 2 counties to work with Milwaukee’s program to help in their battled against illegal drugs.
U.S. Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold asked last October that Rock and Brown counties join the Milwaukee effort. 12 people in Rock County have died from overdoses of heroin in the last year – and authorities have identified gangs that deal heroin and crack cocaine.
Officials said the Green Bay area was part of a larger cocaine and marijuana ring that was broken up during the weekend with 7 arrests in the Fox Valley.
