I know, I know, I posted this a few weeks ago, but tell me it doesn’t get better every time you watch it:
I’m happy for LeBron James. We trash individualism in team sport, then measure individual success on the grounds of team championships won. It’s a glaring double-standard that is unfair to athlete and team alike.
Though many individuals have taken over a contest, none has single-handedly won a team title. But even in that analysis, we are selective.
You know what no one ever says: Robin Yount never won a World Series.
LeBron James conducted an ill-advised television special and made some foolish remarks at a pep rally. It’s tough to defend the fact that James presented himself unlikeable. And I get it that it’s tough to pull for a guy as such. But on the court, the dude is a freak of NBA nature, and I’m glad we can finally get back to talking about that, and not “The Decision.”
