Maino’s discussion this morning about taking on his mourning dove problem with a 2x4 brought back memories of one of the more bizarre (then) WWF personalities of my youth: “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan.

The tale goes that Duggan carried a 2x4 to fend off overzealous fans, but I don’t know how much truth there is/was to that.  I never fully got the 2x4 thing, but did fully embraced Duggan as an American hero.  He was weird and he was funny looking but he always got the crowd chanting USA - USA – USA, so I couldn’t get enough the dude – kind of made me think of Apollo Creed in Rocky IV, only his Ivan Drago was Nikolai Volkoff.  Although, now that I think of it, I believe Duggan tag-teamed with Volkoff at one point.  I don’t know, like I said, weird.
