MLB’s chosen hype baby, Stephen Strasburg, has hit the wall. His words, not mine:
"…kind of hitting the wall a little bit.”
The shoulder tightness that scratched him just minutes before his 10th major league start has landed him on the 15 day DL, and the collateral damage from the D.C. epicenter extends all the way to Iowa.
Miguel Batista, who replaced Strasburg on the hill, and was booed by the Washington “faithful” who turned out expressly to see the latter toss, offered these remarks in defense of the voices of displeasure:
"Imagine if you go to see Miss Universe, then you end up having Miss Iowa, you might get those kind of boos. But it's okay. They have to understand that as an organization we have to make sure that the kid is fine. You don't want to expose him out there and screw up his future.”
Miss Iowa, Katherine Connors, has taken the slight in stride and fired back:
"I know I can throw a pitch or two! The question is, can Miguel Batista walk the runway in a swimsuit?"
It should be noted that Batista has since apologized and sent flowers to Connors for his attempted analogy. I don’t know if that will quell the screams of discontent from the state of Iowa, but seriously Iowa…relax. This is not that big of a deal. Your girl handled herself well, so I think we’re all good here.
If you want to hammer Batista for anything, it shouldn’t be insensitivity…it should be for misrepresentation of the truth.
Miss Iowa is way better looking than Miss Universe:
