Sure am glad I don't have to cover San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh on a daily basis.  Talking to him twice a year is like getting teeth pulled.  Each week, a group of reporters huddle around a speaker phone for a conference call with the Pack's opposing head coach and a player.  It was Harbaugh day today.  Just like it was the week of the season opener, the 49ers coach sounded if there were a million things he'd rather be doing.  His answers were short and to be honest, useless.  I will give him a little credit for offering up a story about how his former high school and college coaches, even Michigan legend Bo Schembechler used to get teams fired up about the next game.  He recalled Bo telling the Wolverines about one opponent saying, "these guys are good, but they're not the Green Bay Packers for goodness sake."  Harbaugh thought it was cute that now he's preparing to face the Packers in the NFC Divisional Round Sunday at Candlestick Park.  But on other topics...Harbaugh was asked what was his team's best performance of the season was and he said, "I don't have that list in front of me."  On how kicker David Akers has handled the challenge of bringing in Billy Cundiff to compete for the playoff placekicking job, Harbaugh responded, "Like a professional."  End of explanation. I covered Harbaugh as a player with the Colts and Bears and he was a fiery, competitive athlete from a strong football background, and while Mike McCarthy is hardly a quote machine, the 49ers coach is so un-forthcoming and almost arrogantly blunt, today's session was like he was doing us a favor by simply being on the other end of the phone call.

The Packers made a practice squad roster move today.  GM Ted Thompson never stops tinkering.  Center Garth Gerhart was signed and offensive lineman Shea Allard was released.  Gerhart is a rookie from Arizona State who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns and spent the entire 2012 season on Cleveland's practice squad.
