Press Record & Play & Pause (at the same time)

by Nick Vitrano

While cleaning out stuff in my basement these past few weeks, I’ve come across a number of items that have made me laugh out loud – stuff that my 20-month old daughter will some day regard as evidence of her dad being old and out-of-touch – stuff she won’t believe was actually a part of human existence.

* Encyclopedias.  Those babies went right in the donation box.  Now that I think about it, why am I donating those?  No one will ever use those.  Will they?

* Maps.  Forget the donation box.  Those were just tossed.  Maps.  Silly daddy.  Just program the address into the GPS.

* Records.  I love the crispness of the digital sound era, but man, the grainy rasp of a record spinning on the turntable is fantastic.  She’ll never master the art of dropping the needle just right.

* Tapes.  I have boxes of tapes, not only of artists, but Memorex 60s of my favorite compilations.  Yes the mix tape.  Man, mix tapes were the best – great for driving and great for telling your lady all that you are feeling (with a little help from Richard Marx).   If you're struggling with how to explain this phenomenon to your children, here's a great video:
