The Packers released offensive lineman Greg Van Roten Tuesday. The third year player from Pennsylvania made the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012, appearing in the final seven games of that season, including both playoff contests. After serving as a backup to start 2013, Van Roten suffered a foot injury during the week four bye and spent the rest of the year on injured reserve. He played both guard positions and was considered a potential backup to starting center Evan Dietrich-Smith. Second year pro J.C.Tretter may move into that role and could possibly earn the starting job if Dietrich-Smith leaves as an unrestricted free agent.
